#451 GISIMA – RENAULT 5, FORD FIESTA and FERRARI 512 BB TURBO PENCIL SHARPENERS (AROUND 1985)

The toys in this entry are different from what I have shown until now in this blog. If after so many entries I can recall correctly, I have never shown a pencil sharpener.

Another entry has been published about Gisima, including information about the company and showing a few (rather badly made) cars. Check it here!

The first of these toys, the Renault 5, has some similarities with Majorette’s model. Not only because of the wheels, the body is also very similar. It is however very nice that Gisima manufactured this toy in Renault-yellow and gave it so suitable stickers. The windows are of course very dark, so you cannot see the pencil sharpener inside (so no interiors).

The second model is slightly bigger than the first one and represents a Ferrari BB 512 Turbo, and differs from the Renault in the pull-back motor that it has and the Renault doesn’t. The wheels have a special soft plastic ring, so the traction of the pull-back motor is better.

The colour this time is not Ferrari-Red, but dark blue, but I know this same model was made in different colours, so there was also a red model. The stickers are also nice, and have the word Ferrari on them. Another detail is the rear license plate “IBI-5426”, that mentions the famous village in which Gisima manufactured its toys, and that we have mentioned so many times in this blog.

UPDATE: I finally found the Ford Fiesta that was released together with the Renault 5. Here I put some pictures. Both cars were the most popular cars by the beginning of the 80s in Spain.

  1. I purchased a box of these Gisima cars at a auction. 30 cars for $5.00. They were so poorly made I found them interesting (so I thought) 1 of the cars a Ferrari 512BB Turbo has a metal bottom and a extra hole besides the 1eft front tire under the paper sticker...I realized now after reading this blog it is a pencil sharpener with no sharpener in it...really weird car

    1. Hi Karl,
Great find! That was a bargain. I never saw a BB512 with metal base, maybe it was a later version without pencil sharpener.

The company still exists, and probably still have the casts to be reused over and over.

I have other entries dealing with Gisima, if you want to know more about the brand or see other cars made. The 6th of April I will publish another entry with two more Gisimas.
