#201 HASBRO’S WWF – HULK HOGAN #2, “MACHO KING” #2, ULTIMATE WARRIOR #2 and MILLION DOLLAR MAN #2 (1991)

 HASBRO'S WWF - SECOND WAVE (I)

The next three entries will be dedicated to the 2^nd wave of WWF wrestlers that were manufactured by Hasbro in the 90s. The first wave was commented in entries #117, #118 and #119.

After the great success of the first wave, it was only a matter of time that the new figures would be available for all wrestling fans. The second wave was not what we could say revolutionary, since a few figures (5: Brutus Beefcake, Jake “Snake” Roberts, Big Boss Man, Akeem and André the Giant) were the same that were available in wave 1, and there were not so many new characters… as a proof, take a look at this entry: all four figures are v2’s. I guess some characters simply had to be there for people who were starting their collections. Similarly to the MOTU toyline, where one He-Man and one Skeletor could be found in each wave, each WWF wave there has to include at least one Hulk Hogan, one Ultimate Warrior...

The wave, however, won’t be complete with the figures shown here. The “Tag Teams” will be shown in future entries. All 9 figures that were first released in this wave were sold individually carded in blisters, while tag teams were sold in 2-packs. The colour of the frame of the card was the “WWF blue”, just like in the first wave.

1. Hulk Hogan #2 with Hulkster Hug!

The second version of Hulk Hogan performs a quite spectacular move, the Hulkster Hug, which is a quite rare move (Hulk Hogan v2 is the only figure in the whole series with it). Maybe it wasn’t used anymore, because the figure is not very playable; the arms in front of his chest reduce its playability. I have this figure since I was a kid: I couldn’t get the first Hulk, but I got the second version.

2. “Macho King” Randy Savage #2 with Macho Masher!

This version also performs a new movement, which is basically the same “spring-action waist” that was available with most Masters of the Universe, only this figure has one straight arm: this way the figure performs a punch or a tackle, depending on the position of the elbow.
This figure was the only one in the whole collection that came with two accessories: a crown and a sceptre, therefore it is rare to find complete. It is important to mention that this #2 figure was re-released in wave 3, but the figures were not exactly the same. This version has “Macho King” on the back part of the trunks, while v3 has “Macho Man” on the same place.

3. Ultimate Warrior #2 with Ultimate Slam!

This version is in my opinion better than the first one, it’s better casted and performs the already known “slam” move, which is as good as the original jump move. The figure on the pic is not in very good shape, but I recently found one which is perfect and works great.

4. Ted DiBiase “Million Dollar Man” #2 with Million Dollar Stomp!

The second figure of Ted DiBiase performs a new move, the “stomp”. This move is also not very “playable”, and was only used in two figures more (I.R.S and Butch from the Bushwackers, v1 and v2). The figure is very similar to the first one, the main difference is the colour of the tuxedo, green instead of black. The figure came with its dollar belt. I have this figure since I was a kid.
